Wireless Networking
These days it's increasingly likely that there is more than one computer in your house, or that you are contemplating getting a new one and putting the old one in another room.   Whatever the case, rather than using awkward cabling, which ties all your computers down, the modern way to do it is to use wireless networking. This way, you can have any of your computers anywhere in the house or garden - unless you live in Buckingham Palace, where the bottom of the garden may be a little too ambitious!

When you use wireless networking, it does confer other advantages: using the ADSL2+ router we supply, the built in broadband modem means you can share an internet connection from anywhere in the house or garden; the router has a built in firewall and sits between the internet and your computer to help stop internet nasties get on to your system; you can use printers that aren't connected to your computer - or any computer, for that matter - and share files, even live video, from one computer to the other. Also, of course, unlike cabled networks, if you want to add another computer, you just plug a wireless adapter into it, and off you go! Note: to get the best out of the wireless systems, if you are using a Microsoft operating system, then it should be Windows XP / Vista.

Below you'll find networking setups that use Belkin products. We realise that in the fast moving world of wireless products that the options described below may not suit your needs for whatever reason. If that's the case, then you may want to use the following link to our Component Shop, where you'll find a large selection of networking products and other computer components.

Options
Currently, we think that there is little point in offering slower speed network components than the ones presented below. Since these are the best available, it's in the nature of things that they will be superceded. So if you're going to buy new, then this speed is what you should get, simply because, by definition, everything else is already old and slow. And you can never have too much bandwidth!

Pre-N
For fastest currently available access speeds across larger than usual spaces, with a built-in broadband modem which is capable of all the current and predicted internet speeds for the near future (the theoretical limit is around 540Mb/s, so speeds of around 400Mb/s should be common), combined with a 4-port Ethernet switch, the Pre-N Mimo is the answer, and is best-of-breed.  This is the speed you will need if you are going to stream video around the house, or play multi-user games over the internet, or just to make the whole internet experience as good as it can possibly be. It also means that when you want to get files from other computers on the network, no matter how many you have, there won't be any waiting! All these products are from the same manufacturer, because they are more likely to work well together than products from mixed manufacturers. If you don't have any laptop machines, now is definately the time to think of getting one. Whether you want one to replace your desktop machine, or one that you can slip into a bag, but that is still a real computer, the range available is vast. You'll find some on our A-List page, more on our 3 Mobile deals page (where you get them bundled with phone modems, so that you then have every type of connectivity available!), and if that isn't enough, you can go to our online component shop  by clciking the link above, where you'll find not just laptops, but all things to do with computers!

The most likely user requirements are for 2 desktop machines (PN2XD), or for 1 desktop and 1 laptop machine (PN1D1L) to be connected together. You may require just a router (PNMO) because you already have a laptop with fast wi-fi built in.  We can supply and install these options for the following prices:

We can also supply and fit extra adapters for your desktop machines at £70 each and for laptops at £65 each. As we said above, we're happy to supply any other kit that you may prefer, or you can go to our store and buy your own items to install for yourself.
